R&D Data Analyst

About The Position

Join the Platform R&D Group at Windward, where we leverage data to drive real impact in the maritime world. Fusing diverse signal sources into the maritime data foundation that powers our most critical insights. Our core mission is to become the intelligence authority of the oceans – mission-grade maritime AI that brings action-ready clarity across the global seas.


You will be part of a research team, creating and improving our core-data algorithms. This Data Analyst role balances strategic, end-to-end data research with high-velocity, ad-hoc analysis to support crucial engineering and product decisions. You will immerse yourself in the fascinating world of maritime data, using Python, SQL, LLM frameworks, and occasionally Java to conduct analysis and ensure your insights drive strategic product development.


What will you do?

  • Conduct end-to-end analysis & research to create and improve our core-data algorithms.
  • Turn signals into actionable insights by analyzing GEOINT, SIGINT, and ADINT, and fusing them with maritime data.
  • Write Python code to extract and analyze data from various sources (including Postgres, MongoDB, SingleStore, and S3).
  • Leverage Generative AI tools for deep research, data analysis, and coding to accelerate insights.
  • Analyze large datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and anomalies, applying domain knowledge to interpret data and provide valuable insights for the maritime industry.
  • Maintain and ensure data quality and integrity, conducting thorough checks to monitor, identify, and resolve inconsistencies, and taking accountability for critical data and infrastructure.
  • Visualize findings, use data storytelling, and document research in technical papers and logs to understand and communicate actionable insights effectively to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (including domain and technical experts) to address research challenges and optimize data processes.
  • Join the Data Analysts technical guild to help grow Windward’s data analysts professional community.


Requirements

Who are you?

  • 2ֿ+ years of experience in data analysis or equivalent field using python code 
  • Hands-on experience analyzing GEOINT, SIGINT, or ADINT data
  • Experience in utilizing Generative AI tools and an AI-first approach to data research, analysis, and innovation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science or a related field
  • Experience in using statistical methods to address analytical challenges
  • Experience working with querying databases with Python data analysis and visualization tools (Pandas, NumPy, PySpark, Plotly, Matplotlib, etc..)
  • Experience using data visualization and monitoring tools (such as Grafana or Redash)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English
  • Basic familiarity with reading Java code – advantage
