Software Team Leader – Maritime Intelligence R&D group

About The Position

Windward is at the forefront of revolutionizing the maritime and logistics industries, and supporting law and defense authorities with cutting-edge AI technology. We are seeking an experienced Team Leader to join our Maritime Intelligence R&D group and drive engineering excellence across our global development teams.

As a technical leader, you will be responsible for leading engineers across a distributed team, fostering innovation, and delivering enterprise-grade AI-powered solutions. You will lead your team to excellence within our Agile-driven environment and structure, ensuring high-velocity delivery, team empowerment, and technical integrity. You’ll be part of the TSG (Trading, Shipping & Government) R&D leadership team, bringing business perspective from the field while driving technological excellence in our mission: to become the intelligence authority of the oceans – mission grade maritime AI that brings action ready clarity across the global seas.

What Will You Do?

Lead Engineers: Manage and mentor engineers (currently colocated in Israel), supporting teams across diverse technology stacks. Your role will be to support and enable your team within our agile structure and ecosystem, including handling impediments and ensuring high-velocity delivery.

People Management: Be accountable for team members’ technical skills, career growth, motivation, retention, and happiness

Drive Product Excellence: Lead the development and architecture and be accountable for the delivery of enterprise-grade solutions, ensuring production stability, relying on your team and partnering with different stakeholders, and working closely with Product Management

Strategic Leadership: Bridge business needs from the field with technological vision, driving both short-term wins and long-term strategy

Build Team Culture and Driving Change: Foster continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and professional development across the organization, operating as part of the scrum eco-system.

Requirements

4+ years of experience leading leading development teams of at least 5 engineers – a must.

Proven experience working and leading within Agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban),  collaborating with Scrum Masters, Agile Coaches and Empowered Teams as a manager.

Proven experience in leveraging GenAI development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) to revolutionize engineering work.

5+ years of hand on experience in backend or fullstack development, with proven proficiency in at least two of the following: Java (Spring Boot), Node.js, React, or Python

Deep experience building and shipping enterprise SaaS products at scale, including familiarity with CI/CD practices and at least one of the major cloud providers

Experience with microservices architecture and high-scale systems. You are comfortable navigating between different languages and frameworks based on project needs.

Excellent English (written and verbal) – essential for interacting with global stakeholders and customers.

B.Sc. in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
